Registration

Registration is one of the requisite conditions for obtaining a permit to practice medicine in Québec. Any person who studies medicine in a faculty of medicine in Québec must submit an application for registration with the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ), in compliance with the Medical Act and the Regulation respecting the causes, terms and conditions for issuing and revoking registration in medicine.

The registration certificate authorizes the student to perform, under supervision, the medical acts required for his or her training, in compliance with the Regulation respecting the professional acts that may be performed by persons other than physicians and the applicable terms and conditions. Furthermore, the student must perform these professional acts in compliance with the standards applicable to physicians, notably those related to ethics and the keeping of records and consulting rooms.

Students from a faculty of medicine situated outside of Québec who wish to serve clinical training periods in Québec must have a registration certificate issued by the Collège des médecins du Québec. In order to obtain one, certain formalities must be followed. To know what those are, students should contact the host faculty in Québec.
