Continuing professional development

Since July 1, 2007, Québec physicians are invited to opt for one of the continuing professional development programs (CPD), such as the self-managed plan offered by the Collège des médecins du Québec. In offering a simple, convivial approach to its members, the Collège allows physicians to manage their own CPD plan in a way that appropriately meets their educational needs. In this section, physicians will find multi-purpose tools, making the process easy and effective.

Physicians must inform the Collège of the CPD plan they choose when they renew their annual assessment. Physicians who could not do so are asked to complete the CPD plan enrolment form and to return it to the Collège des médecins du Québec.

Once a year, the Collège will ask some 3% of its members to provide proof of enrolment in a CPD program. If a physician cannot furnish the necessary papers, or if these are not satisfactory, the Collège will propose a mentorship process with a colleague who will assist the physician in drawing up his or her own CPD plan.

The Collège is convinced that the self-managed plan for CPD will enable physicians to account for their maintenance of competence and ability to provide the best health care services possible.
