The elected directors of the Collège’s Board of Directors (BD) select the president and chief executive officer (president and CEO) of the Order from among their number. Dr. Charles Bernard was re-elected for a second four-year term on October 17, 2014.
The president and CEO not only exercises the functions of president of the Order, as defined in the Professional Code, but also those normally assigned to an organization’s chief executive officer.
As president, Dr. Bernard represents the Collège in its dealings with political bodies and various partners of the Order. As chief executive officer, he is the principal manager of the organization and, consequently, the superior of the secretary, the directors and all personnel. He is responsible for the sound management of human, financial, material and information resources. He is also responsible for ensuring the BD’s decisions are implemented and that any policies developed are aligned with the BD’s orientations. He sets out objectives, oversees work related to budget preparation, recommends programs for adoption by the BD, follows up decisions and reports to the BD.
The president and CEO acts as the main spokesperson for the Order and represents the organization in its dealings with various external stakeholders in order to promote its influence. He ensures the quality and quantity of the services provided in accordance with the Order’s mission.
