Elective training period

A medical graduate enrolled in a program accredited by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Royal College) or the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) who is completing postgraduate training in a faculty of medicine in Canada or the United States and who would like to complete a postgraduate training period in a faculty of medicine in Québec (“elective training period”), must have a training card issued by the Collège des médecins du Québec.

The eligibility requirements for the training period can vary across faculties of medicine. Applicants must satisfy the eligibility requirements of the faculty of medicine concerned.

To obtain a training card, the applicant must:

  1. Be accepted by a faculty of medicine at a Québec university. The faculty will send the Collège a letter confirming that the resident has been accepted.
  2. Provide the faculty of medicine in Québec with the required documents.
  3. Complete an application for a training card using the Collège’s transactional site and pay the required fees (access to the site will be given by the Collège.)

The Collège will issue the training card once the applicant has completed the application and the university has provided the information needed to prepare the card.
