Recognition of equivalence in order to obtain a regular permit to practice
Step 3 - Final Examination
When you will have completed all the required postgraduate training in Québec to the satisfaction of the faculty of medicine and of the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ), you will have to comply to CMQ requirements and pass the Final examination in one of the Québec recognized specialties in order to obtain a permit to practice.
The purpose of the Final examination in family medicine or in another specialty is to evaluate the candidate with a view to determining whether he is capable of practicing medicine independently. This examination includes one or several components, which are administered by an organization with which the Board of the CMQ has concluded an agreement for this purpose.
The family medicine Final examination is administered by the College of Family Medicine of Canada (CFPC). Registration for this examination is with the CFPC.
In other specialties, it is administered by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Royal College). Registration for this examination is with the Royal College.
