Our history - The CMQ's 175th anniversary
In 2022, the Collège des médecins celebrated its 175th anniversary!
Throughout this very special year, we have highlighted our rich history, which also reflects the history of medical practice in Quebec.

Message from the President
Since our founding in 1847, society and science have evolved; so has the Collège. Our mission, however, has not changed. Every day, we work to protect the public by providing quality medical care.
As the 34th president of one of the oldest professional orders in Quebec, I am proud and honoured to share this history with you today!
- Dr. Mauril Gaudreault, President of the Collège des médecins du Québec

Commemorative book (1847-2022)
To mark its 175th anniversary, the Collège asked author and historian Denis Goulet to revisit his book Histoire du Collège des médecins du Québec [History of the Collège des médecins du Québec; in French only], published on the occasion of the 150th anniversary, to add the most significant moments of the past 25 years. A captivating book published by Les éditions du Septentrion in June 2022.
About the author:
Denis Goulet, Ph.D., is a specialist in the history of medicine, a discipline he taught during his academic career. He has published some twenty books and many scientific articles. Honoured by the Hannah Institute for the History of Medicine and the Royal Society of Canada, he was also visiting professor at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris.
He is the author of the books Brève histoire des épidémies au Québec. Du choléra à la COVID-19 [A brief history of epidemics in Quebec; in French only], Histoire de la Faculté de médecine de l’Université Laval [History of the faculty of medicine of Université Laval; in French only] and Histoire de la médecine au Québec 1800-2000 [History of medicine in Quebec 1800-2000; in French only] (with Robert Gagnon), published by Les éditions du Septentrion.
